Outsourcing Sales: Who Speaks on Your Behalf? - Mister Sales

Outsourcing is easy. Knowing what’s being said on your behalf is the hard part.

This month, Radar revealed what sales partners of three major energy providers were telling customers. Eneco, Vattenfall, and Engie subsequently terminated their relationships with those partners. Their names had already been mentioned in the broadcast.

What Radar Thought

People searching for an energy provider’s customer service were sometimes directed—via a Google ad—not to that provider, but to an intermediary. This was revealed by an investigation by Radar. Anyone who contacted them with a question ended up in a sales pitch. And the only offer available was a three-year contract.

After the broadcast, Eneco, Vattenfall, and Engie terminated their relationships with the sales partners in question. The industry association Energie-Nederland made it clear: suppliers remain responsible for the conduct of their sales partners.

Your Name, Their Conversation

That’s the lesson for any company that outsources sales—even well beyond the energy market. You outsource the work, not the responsibility. To your customer or prospect, there’s no such thing as a sales partner. There’s only your brand.

Outsourcing itself isn’t the risk here. The risk is a partner whose work processes you don’t understand: who conducts the meeting, what that person knows about your proposition, and what happens after the meeting. The larger your organization, the more is at stake if just one meeting goes wrong.

Five Questions to Ask Before Outsourcing

Ask these questions of anyone who will be contacting others on your behalf:

  • Who conducts the interviews? A dedicated team that gets to know your offering, or a rotating staff for each campaign?
  • How are they prepared? Are they trained on your offerings, your target audience, and what sets you apart, and do you get a say in that?
  • Is the approach tailored to individual needs? Or will your prospect hear the same story as the previous client’s customers?
  • What do you make of the conversations? Do you get real-time insight into who was spoken to and what came of it, or just a monthly total?
  • Who will make the necessary adjustments? If a conversation isn’t going well, who notices, and how quickly?

If you don’t get a clear answer to any of these questions, then you know enough.

How We Work

At MisterSales, full-time professionals handle the calls. Before the first contact takes place, we train them on your value proposition, your target audience, and what sets you apart from the competition. You play an active role in that training. No cookie-cutter script—just an approach that matches the way you talk to customers.

Every conversation is analyzed so we can continuously make adjustments. And through a live dashboard, you can see what’s happening on your behalf at any time. That’s how outsourcing sales works at MisterSales: your name, your story, backed by the strength of our team.
